Shetland Mist book launch December 10 at Asbury UMC

Rev. Heather Leslie Hammer, has published a book of historical fiction based on the life of her great-great-grandmother, who lived in the Shetland Islands in the 1800s: Shetland Mist: A Shetland Family in the Methodist Movement.

The story was first told to her by her father, Dr. Robert Leslie, formerly of PSR and the California-Nevada Conference.

The destitute “crofters” of Shetland, Scotland found hope when Methodist missionaries came by boat from England bringing both grain and the gospel thirty years after John Wesley’s death. The theme, “from loss through faith to resilience,” suits small-group reading and discussion.

Rev. Heather has a seven-week study guide on her website, appropriate for use in Lent or any time as we look for avenues toward resilience in our present day. Contact Heather to preach or give a book talk at your church:
The book can be purchased at:
and on Amazon (including Kindle). The author’s website gives an endorsement by Bishop Sally Dyck:
Heather will launch the book Dec. 9, 7:00-9:00 pm at Asbury UMC, Livermore, and Dec. 10 at 4:00-5:00 pm virtually. Email Heather for the zoom link:
