Dear Friends in Faith,
Greetings from the Connectional Ministries office and on behalf of our Conference Committee on Mission Service!
Putting our faith into action is an integral part of what it means to be a United Methodist. As we continue to participate in God’s Mission around the California-Nevada Conference, I am pleased to share with you some current initiatives as well as update on some transitions.
First, attached is the September issue of The Mission Connection, the newsletter of our Conference United Methodist Volunteers in Mission - UMVIM Program. It highlights a couple of opportunities for disaster response training and upcoming mission volunteer opportunities, including wildfire recovery in Northern California. Thanks to Steve Elliott, our UMVIM Coordinator for putting the newsletter together. The Mission Connection September Newsletter
This month, we would like to highlight the remarkable long-standing commitment of the Chinese Community UMC in Oakland to build the Kumi Christian Visionary School in Uganda. Here is a link to an article about this faithful call to action: https://www.cnumc.org/vim-details/kumi-christian-visionary-school-15423697
We also want to share an important transition on our staff. After a little more than three years of service, Sonja Edd-Bennett has concluded her assignment as the Conference Disaster Response Coordinator. Her position was funded by a grant from UMCOR for the 2017 Fires Disaster Response which was completed by the end of 2020. Sonja is not leaving the conference staff, though. She will continue as the Project Manager of the San Mateo Disaster Case Management, a partnership with Catholic Charities of California funded by FEMA. Meanwhile, for any needs related to Disaster Response, please contact my office, Connectional Ministries, or the VIM office.
And lastly, we want to give a special thank you to Sunae Cho for serving as chair of the Conference Committee on Mission Service during this year of reorganization of our mission work. Sunae brought great energy and enthusiasm to this committee. We are pleased to announce that Justin Ryu will assume this leadership role in the coming months.
We look forward to sharing more of our Conference missions and outreach in the coming months. If you have a mission story you want to share, just send an article and photos to Jorge Domingues at email@example.com or to Shari Sandoval at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Living in Hope,
Rev. Jorge Domingues – Exec. Director of Connectional Ministries
