Elk Grove UMC donates to Disaster Response Ministry

Conference staff Jacey Johnson Pickens-Jones receives Elk Grove UMC donations from Trudie Atchison and Norma Heim.

Disaster Response Ministry (DRM) has received support and donations from across the California-Nevada conference. More people are being trained as Early Response Team leaders, volunteering in local communities to provide relief and recover to survivors and donating goods and money toward all of these efforts.

Trudie Atchison and Norma Heim of Elk Grove UMC stopped by the conference office with over 50 school kits for kids who have been impacted by the fires. The kits include pencils, notebooks and other school supplies. In addition to the kits, Trudie and Norma also donated $200 toward Disaster Response Ministry fire relief efforts.

People involved in supporting survivors in the journey from disaster to relief and recovery know that it takes all of us, contributing in whatever way we can, as we accompany folks on that journey. DRM is a ministry of presence that requires preparedness so that when the next fire, earthquake or flood happens, people and resources are ready to dispatch.

Trudie, Norma and the faith family at Elk Grove UMC understand our conference culture of preparedness and find ways to be involved in the next chapter of survivors' lives.  They join countless others across our connection making a difference and for that we are deeply grateful.
