The purpose of The Society is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. The Society will do this by serving as a coordinating body for the member churches of The Society, and by offering proactive assistance in order to establish and support new church development, local church renewal, and Circuit and cooperative ministries.
Grants and Loans are available in the following categories:
Each fall at its Annual Meeting, The Society offers a $500 mini grant to every church in our society (composed of the northern portion of the Central Valley District). These grants are for new ministry projects only and churches are encouraged to think outside the box. The idea is that a church might acquire a mini grant for a ministry idea or experiment. If the ministry project is a success, we encourage the church to come back to the society and apply for a full grant to fund the ministry.
Grants are normally program oriented (e.g., resources, materials or staffing for new or expanded programs) and may be renewed annually for up to three consecutive years (not to exceed a total of four consecutive years) subject to compliance with annual evaluations and completion of a renewal request application. Churches may apply for Grants of up to $5,000 per church per year, plus an additional $250 for each 10% of the Conference Tithe paid in the prior year, up to $7,500 per church per year if the Conference Tithe was paid in-full. In addition, churches whose prior year Conference Tithe was paid in-full may request an additional $250 for each 10% of Second Mile Giving paid in the prior year, up to a total of $10,000 per church, per year if the Conference Tithe and Second Mile Giving were paid in-full.
A Church Start Grant is flexible so that funding policies can be crafted for the needs of the church plant. A Church Start grant may be used to fund salary, administrative cost, equipment, marketing and communication, outreach, insurance, property taxes, programming and training with the items being negotiable. The Church grant may be renewed annually for up to four consecutive years (not to exceed a total of five consecutive years) subject to compliance with annual evaluations and completion of a renewal request application. Application can be made for a total of $225,000 over a five year period with the funding arrangement reduced over time. For eligibility requirements and additional information, please consult the Church Start Grant Policy.
Loans are normally approved for one-time expenditures for construction, repair, or equipment. Loan amounts are subject to available funds. Terms are negotiable.
The Society reserves the prerogative to engage applicants in dialogue offering a loan as an alternative to a grant, and vice versa.
Completed funding applications should be sent to the CES Financial Secretary, Mark Wharff at MarkWharff@gmail.com or by mail to 2064 Sheldon Drive, Modesto, CA 95350.
Funding applications must be received at least two (2) weeks prior to the meeting at which they are to be considered.
